I just downloaded the new adobe reader 8 on my new PC and besides being a whopping 170 mb big it also starts up terribly slow. Which is pretty counterintuitive since I installed it on a brand new fast PC.
Fortunately Adobe is not the only one with a pdf reader available. For those of you who want to view their PDF files instantly without any delay should try Foxit Reader . With 2.2 mb it is not only lighter but a lot faster than Adobe Reader 8! I am really happy with it!
Also if you are on a public/school computer with Adobe preinstalled and you are not allowed to install software, you can try Sumatra PDF viewer. A free, opensource, light (1.1 mb) PDF viewer which requires no installation! Just download the executable and run it of your USB stick.
